In India, the Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY) & BIS CRS  Registration combined introduced CRS or Compulsory Registration Scheme in 2012 to protect Indian customers against counterfeit & substandard products. In India, BIS Registration for all the electronics and IT products comes under CRS. According to Compulsory Registration Scheme, getting BIS Certification for electronics & IT goods is compulsory before launching them into the market. CROs or Compulsory Registration Orders issued by the Ministry which state that no one shall store/manufacture products for sale, import, or distribute that don not follow the Indian Standards as prescribed under CRO & do not bear the Standard Mark with a distinct Registration Number.
